About

Thank you for considering me as your mental health therapist. I'm excited to share a little bit about myself as we get to know each other. I grew up in Mumbai, India. I pursued my first Master's degree in the UK before earning my second Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Teachers College, Columbia University, New York.

While I currently live in San Francisco, California, my diverse upbringing has instilled in me a blend of eastern and western values rooted in a modern urban world that I bring to my practice. I take a lot of gratitude and pride in being an Indian / South Asian Psychotherapist and find this identity central to my work with clients. (Read my recent blog on having a culturally aligned therapist here.)

How Do I Work?

I think of myself as being a thought partner with you. Goal in therapy is to build empowerment by utilizing insight, compassion and coping techniques to manage your mental health well - being. We all deserve a space where we can truly acknowledge and hold understanding of our inner world. I work with adults collaboratively with ongoing consent to build awareness into how we think and feel. I work from an anti-oppressive lens by using the therapy space to process our lived experiences from different parts of our identities that hold marginalisation and privilege. Lastly, compassion is deeply rooted in my therapeutic language and relationship with you. I aim to help you build a more compassionate language with yourself and use a range of evidence-based practices to engage in acceptance of our thoughts and emotions without judgement. I take into account your life experiences, cultural background and your goals, to be able to tailor therapy that meets your need.

Some of the approaches that I regularly use in my practice :

  • Psychodynamic therapy

  • Evidence based approaches (Cognitive behavioral therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy & Dialectical behavior therapy)

  • Mindfulness based approach
